Jake was born and raised in Arizona. The son of two teachers, he has harbored a life-long love of learning and self-enrichment.
His interest in journalism began entirely by coincidence. After switching districts between junior high school and high school, the introductory journalism class at Centennial High School in Peoria, Arizona was one of the only classes left open for registration. Usually unavailable to freshman, it was the very first class he attended in high school. The rest is history; he went on to become editor-in-chief and had decided to attend journalism school.
Jake worked with his employer to develop a company website, teaching himself as he went along. As his skills improved he began working with other local companies to develop their web presences. His abilities as a web developer soon grew to encompass XHTML, CSS, Javascript, and Search Engine Optimization.
His areas of college study have included computer sciences, economics and literature on top of the journalism coursework offered at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University located in the heart of Downtown Phoenix. His training from this school has prepared him as a true 21st century digital journalist, able to work with multiple media across a variety of platforms.
